Assignment Specifications

iVotronic terminals are assigned to a specific precinct, and are further given a unique identifier to make easy to tell one terminal form the next without needing to refer to the terminals serial number. For example, the Balsam Grove precinct is abbreviated BG. It's terminals are BG1, BG2, …. ADA terminals use letters rather than numbers to uniquely identify them, e.g., BG‑A.

iVotronic terminals are permanently assigned to a specific booth. Thus, the booth carries the same designation as the terminal. Part of the booth is the RTAL printer, so the RTAL printer has the same designation as the terminal. When any of these assignments change, the permanent assignment can be changes (for example, if an RTAL printer is replaced.)

PEBs are assigned to a precinct, yet since any PEB for a precinct may be used with any terminal in that precinct, PEBs are only assigned the precinct abbreviation (e.g., BG.)

Compact flash cards are assigned to a specific terminal for each election, but because all compact flash cards carry the same information, they are not assigned an abbreviated code. Rather, a serial number is assigned to each so they may be uniquely identified without reading the card contents.

Communications packs are assigned to a precinct, and thus given the precinct code.

All the above assignments are permanent, meaning they carry from one election to another. However, it may become necessary to make temporary assignments for a specific election. Doing so permits hardware permanently assigned to one precinct to be prepared and used for another.

In making assignments, several "special" precincts are included, such as for one stop, transfers, demonstration, and spares.
